When searching in the Dark Wood, pride and shame can lead us into thinking more or less of ourselves than we ought. We construct false images rather than claiming our inherent worth and dignity, irrespective of talents and imperfections. When we trust the process of embracing all of who we are, we set ourselves on the path of awakening to our true nature, our highest identity. The Gift of Disappearing comes when we “disappear” into a “thin place” where humanity and divinity merge, gifting us with new insights into who and whose we are. On this Sunday before Thanksgiving, the day of ORUUC’s annual Bread Communion, please come with a serving of bread, if possible, a bread that you find particularly nourishing. Whatever bread you bring, with it, we shall nourish our spirits together.
