Sunday Morning Worship: Universal-ish

  • Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church 809 Oak Ridge Turnpike Oak Ridge, TN, 37830 United States (map)

This Sunday, join us in person or on Zoom for our February worship series, Inclusion, as our minister, Lóre Stevens, shares her sermon, “Universalist.”

Universalism has evolved over time, continually expanding to include more love for more people. We can learn a lot about our own Universalism by exploring stories from spiritual ancestors like Hosea Ballou, John Murray, and Joseph Jordan. Join us for an evolutionary history of our faith. Where might this trajectory lead us next?

Worship begins at 10 a.m. To join by Zoom, visit https://us06web.zoom.us/j/89079582989. Another option is to install the Zoom app on your device and choose, “Join Meeting,” then enter Meeting ID: 890 7958 2989.

The Split-the-Plate recipient for the month of February is Planned Parenthood of Tennessee and Northern Mississippi. The first Planned Parenthood chapter in the state was formed in Oak Ridge in 1961, and many of the first volunteers and board members were from ORUUC. After the Knoxville office was destroyed by arson New Year’s Eve morning in 2021, the organization rebuilt and reopened their new building in October of 2024. While they can no longer provide abortions due to state law, Planned Parenthood continues to help those in need access those services. In addition, they continue to provide birth control, STD testing and treatment, prenatal and postpartum care, wellness and preventative care, gender affirming care, and current, factual reproductive health information. It is vital that we support an organization that provides true and factual information regarding reproduction and health issues. For more information, visit http://www.plannnedparenthood.org. Please visit https://onrealm.org/oruuc/-/form/give/now to give as you are willing and able, or text “ORUUC” to 73256.

After the service, you're invited to our Hugs & Quiches potluck lunch in the Social Hall. If you can, bring a dish to share—it doesn’t have to be a quiche—but if you can't, there will be plenty for all! There will be no regular Youth Faith Formation classes or nursery second hour so that children may eat with their families; the OWL class *will* meet as scheduled. Lóre will host her Meet the Minister gathering in the Sanctuary at 11:15. At 12:30, there will be a Centered in Love Vigil in the Sanctuary. Many of us are feeling heightened anxiety or concern due to current events. Join us after the potluck for a vigil (like that which we had after the election) to share what's on our hearts and minds. Check out our regular Faith Formation opportunities for adults here: http://www.oruuc.org/faith-formation-for-adults and children and youth here: http://www.oruuc.org/religious-education.

All are welcome! We look forward to seeing you!
